Naira Abuse: Cubana Chief Priest explores out-of-court settlement with EFCC

  Big shot bar owner, Pascal Okechukwu, also known as Cubana Chief Priest, is exploring an out-of-court settlement with the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) with respect to the charge of Naira abuse levelled against him by the anti-graft agency at the Federal High Court sitting in Lagos. His lawyer, Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Chikaosolu Ojukwu, disclosed this to trial judge, Justice Kehinde Ogundare at the proceedings on Thursday. The defence counsel also told the court that parties have applied that the matter be settled pursuant to the provisions of section 14(2) of the EFCC Act. Chikaosolu said that if the EFCC confirms the position as true, then there will be a need to apply for a withdrawal of the defence’s preliminary objection to allow for a reconciliation. The EFCC prosecutor, Mrs Bilikisu Buhari, confirmed the position as stated by the defence counsel and told the court that the Commission was still considering the application. NIGERIA: FG Commences Operation on Port Harcourt-Aba Rail Line

The set up occurred in Port Harcourt the Rivers State capital earlier on Wednesday. Performing the ceremonial launch, the Minister of Transportation, Saidu Alkali, assured the people of the region that the trains will work properly to serve them. He also promised that the expansion will continue until the Eastern Standard Gauge from Port Harcourt to Maiduguri is fully completed. Following a short ceremony to fag off the train operation, the Minister and other officials present boarded the train for a ride to Aba. The Managing Director of the NRC, Fidet Okhiria, was elated that he and his team were able to meet the April deadline set for them.   Harry Kane has revealed Jude Bellingham said "you're going to go left of the keeper" as the Real Madrid midfielder tried to put off his England team-mate before the Bayern Munich forward took his penalty in the Champions League semi-final. Petrol marketers threaten to withdraw services over 200 billion Naira debt

  The Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria (IPMAN), has warned to halt the supply of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), also known as petrol, over non-payment of 200 billion naira covering claims. The threat comes following current nationwide scarcity which has seen prices of fuel, surge to between N610 and N800 at the pump, and between N1000 and N1200 at black market. The association’s Unit Chairman and Spokesperson, Aba Depot, Mazi Oliver Okolo who made the threat, said it was with the backing of the IPMAN’s national leadership. He claimed that the debt is being owed by the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NMDPRA). In a communique released after a press conference on Tuesday, Okolo said NMDPRA failed to pay the ₦200bn debt despite a directive for payment from the Petroleum Minister (Oil) Heineken Lokpobiri. Nigerian Navy rescues over two hundred and fifty persons from capsized passenger boat in Rivers State

  The Nigerian Navy (NN) personnel of Naval Security Station (NSS) 023 deployed along Cawthorne Channel in Rivers State rescued over 250 passengers who were onboard a capsized passenger boat at about 10pm local time on 28 April 2024. The water taxi, MV PRECIOUS EMMANUEL cast off from a local market in Sangana area of Bayelsa State and was making way to Rivers State when it encountered stormy waters and hit a wreck which damaged its hull causing it to capsize. Notably, the locally made, 3-deck wooden vessel popularly known as “Large Cotonou Boat” was overborne, had no lifesaving equipment onboard and none of its passengers wore a lifejacket. It was the vigilant eyes and professional response of NN personnel who swiftly undertook a rescue mission that ensured no life was lost. Former Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria [CBN] dares jurisdiction of Lagos court to try him

       Godwin Emefiele The Lagos High Court sitting in Ikeja has adjourned until  the end of trial, its ruling on the application filed by the former Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Godwin Emefiele, opposing the might of the court to try him on the charges brought against him by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC). Through his lawyer, Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Olalekan Ojo, Emefiele submitted that he cannot be tried in the high court of any state in Nigeria for alleged acts of abuse of his office as this raises issues of constitutionality and legality. The former CBN governor also noted that counts 1-4 of the 26 counts charge filed by the EFCC against him are unconstitutional as they are not contained in any law in Nigeria. Chelsea defender Thiago Silva will leave the club at the end of the season. The Brazilian, who joined the Blues on a free transfer from Paris St-Germain in 2020, has made 151 appearances for the Blues. He has won three trophies in that time, including the 2020-21 Champions League. Silva, 39, says his love for the club is "indescribable". "Chelsea means a lot to me. I came here with the intention of only staying for a year and it ended up being four years," he said. "It is already hard saying goodbye in the most normal of circumstances but when there is a mutual love, it’s even harder. But once a Blue, always a Blue." Silva joined the club when Frank Lampard was manager and has since also played under Thomas Tuchel, Graham Potter and Mauricio Pochettino. He has made 34 appearances in all competitions for Chelsea this season, including 25 starts in the Premier League.
